Washington D.C., Oct. 3, 2006 – Goulston & Storrs announced today that George Weidenfeller has joined the firm’s Affordable Housing and Economic Development group. Prior to joining the firm, he served as Deputy General Counsel to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He will be resident in the firm’s DC office.
Mr. Weidenfeller said “After a long and exceptional experience in public service, making this transition was a decision to be considered carefully. Goulston & Storrs’ commitment to the real estate industry, and more specifically its depth of expertise in the Affordable Housing arena, make it a perfect fit for me. With a sophisticated practice serving clients nationally across the spectrum of real estate law, my experiences are completely compatible with the firm’s goals. I am looking forward to beginning this new phase of my career with Goulston & Storrs and contributing to the expansion of their DC office.”
Mr. Weidenfeller’s public sector career spans more than three decades where he rose through the ranks from an intern in New York City, to a closing attorney in Boston to Deputy General Counsel in Washington, DC. While serving as the senior career attorney managing the largest legal operation in the country focused on affordable housing and community development law, with 700 people and a budget of $80 Million, he provided substantive legal advice on all HUD programs: including investment incentives for publicly assisted, as well as privately financed residential development; Federal Housing Administration transactions; program, regulatory and fair housing enforcement; Federal procurement, ethics, and oversight of the GSEs - FannieMae/Freddie Mac.
Douglas Husid, Goulston & Storrs’ co-managing director said, “George brings a vast amount of high profile experience to our growing real estate practice in DC. His long career in public service has furthermore produced a wealth of contacts across numerous local, state and Federal government agencies, as well as among private developers and lenders, all of which will reinforce and strengthen our Affordable Housing team. We know that Mr. Weidenfeller had his pick of DC law firms, and corporate law departments and are honored and delighted he chose to join us.”
Mr. Weidenfeller is a member of the Massachusetts and District of Columbia Bars. He is a graduate of Harvard University’s Kennedy School SMG program and Georgetown University School of Law, where he received a Masters of Laws in Tax. He also holds a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California; a JD from Suffolk School of Law, and a BA from the University of Massachusetts.
