Overview

Kenneth MacKenzie, a Director, is co-leader of the firm’s Hospitality & Recreation Industry Group, a member of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants, and part of the Hospitality Advisory Board for the New England Real Estate Journal. He represents institutional investors, private equity funds, investment managers, pension funds, university endowments, REITs, major lending institutions and developers in the acquisition, financing and disposition of all classes of real estate assets both nationally and internationally. Ken specializes in transactions involving hospitality assets and has significant experience in large-scale joint-ventured deals, often involving non-profit institutions such as universities or hospitals. He frequently assists clients in structuring their responses to RFPs for complex mixed-use projects.

  • Represented U.S.-based hotel development company in Structured Development Agreement for creation of multiple branded hotels in India.
  • Represented Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in connection with hotel management agreement for the Fairmont Battery Wharf Hotel, Boston.
  • Sale of the historic Sagamore Resort at Lake George, New York.
  • Represented Pyramid Hotel Opportunity Venture in the acquisition of an 8-hotel portfolio from Thayer Lodging Group and the acquisition of a 5-hotel portfolio from CNL, and related hotel management and franchise agreements.
  • Represented The Boston Convention Center Hotel, LLC in sale of The Westin Boston Waterfront Convention Center Hotel. 
  • Sale of Doubletree Hotel, Soldiers Field Road, Boston.
  • Sale of five-star Caribbean resort.
  • Participating loan financing of development of luxury homes at Villas del Mar, Palmilla Resort, San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
  • Joint venture and construction financing for development of Stowe Mountain Lodge Hotel Condominiums and Spa, Mount Mansfield, Vermont.
  • Represented Capital Properties in the acquisition of Chatham Bars Inn.
  • Preparation of successful RFP response for redevelopment of major teaching hospital.
  • Acquisition of overseas properties and structuring of tax-effective ownership vehicles for development of eco-tourism resort.
  • Represent Terra Resort Group in third party hotel management engagements.
  • Represented ownership with respect to hotel management and license agreements for hotel in Phuket, Thailand.
  • Representation of member of lending group for acquisition of Savoy Hotel chain in United Kingdom.
  • Acquisition and expansion of Best Western Hotel Tria, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
  • Representation of various restaurant owners and investors.
  • Representation of institutional investor in 453 unit joint ventured luxury apartment development at White Flint Place in North Bethesda, Maryland.
  • Workout of failed joint ventures involving institutional investors in commingled funds.
