Overview

Thomas Sitzmann, a Director, concentrates in the field of private client and trust and has more than 35 years of experience in estate planning, estate and trust administration and related tax work. His broad-based practice consists of preparing wills and trusts for both United States and multinational clients; acting as counsel to estates (in both probate court and estate tax settlement proceedings); advising on tax planning matters (including charitable gift planning); negotiating and drafting buy-sell agreements and prenuptial agreements; and advising clients generally on personal, family and tax matters. He also participates as a trustee in the management of investments in numerous trusts.

Representative Experience

  • Creation of a limited liability company (“LLC”) funded with family real estate compound, and implementation of gifts of LLC interests to family members. 
  • Representation of trust beneficiary in connection with investment and distribution issues relating to family trusts. 
  • Creation of long-term irrevocable trust and implementation of gift of closely-held stock to such trust prior to sale of such stock. 
  • Representation of Executors in connection with claims filed against estate by decedent’s children. 
  • As a Trustee, negotiations concerning the extent to which distributions should be made from a trust created by a deceased client for his minor daughter. 
  • Representation of estate beneficiary in connection with dispute with sibling over family personal and real property. 
  • Established sophisticated estate plan leaving a substantial portion of the estate to a charitable foundation.
