March 4, 2015Press Releases

Goulston & Storrs today continued bolstering its Corporate practice in Boston by welcoming John C. Cushing as a Director in its Boston office.  John will continue to counsel entrepreneurs and emerging growth and mature private and public companies on a wide spectrum of strategic and tactical matters at every stage of the business life cycle. John will also work collaboratively with lawyers in Goulston & Storrs’ Capital Markets, Green Business, Mergers & Acquisitions and Emerging Technologies & Venture Capital groups.

John was most recently a partner at Am Law 20 firm K&L Gates in Boston, and in choosing Goulston & Storrs rejoins his colleague Michael A. Hickey who the firm welcomed in January. The addition of John and Mike to the firm is the latest in Goulston & Storrs’ steady stream of lateral acquisitions from firms across the top Am Law ranks, following new directors and associates joining recently from Cahill, Arent Fox, Cleary Gottlieb, Fried Frank, Skadden, Ballard Spahr and Alston & Bird.

John’s practice focuses on corporate and securities law, including business planning, entity selection and formation, private equity and venture capital financing, joint ventures and strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, private placements and public offerings of debt and equity securities, technology licensing, SEC compliance, corporate governance, recapitalizations and general corporate matters. He represents clients in a variety of industries, including alternative energy, consumer products, digital and print media, high technology, e-commerce and e-solutions, software development and information technology, life sciences, medical devices, polymer science, manufacturing, and professional and financial services.

Douglas Husid, co-managing director of Goulston & Storrs, commented, “John’s clients span many of the industries that our Corporate practice has traditionally served, as well as emerging growth industries such as alternative energy and polymer science that tap into the focus areas of our Green Business and Innovation Development and Licensing lawyers. John’s background in finance and operations also affords him a unique understanding of clients’ business and financial objectives. John’s clients will benefit immediately from Goulston & Storrs’ collaborative and client-centric approach, and we’re delighted to welcome John to the Goulston & Storrs Corporate team.”

Prior to entering into private law practice, John served in various positions of financial planning and analysis, cost and budget control and internal audit, including as Divisional Controller of The Timberland Company's Dominican Republic manufacturing group and Corporate Cost and Budget Manager.  He is a graduate of the Lockheed-Sanders, Inc. Financial Management Program.

John received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, as well as an M.B.A. from Boston University and B.A. from St. Anselm College.
