Host, STEP Boston Webinar, "Recent Developments in U.S. and China Cross-Border Matters"

November 19, 2020 at 12:00pm

In her role as Treasurer of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Boston, Rebecca Tunney hosts the Chapter's November 2020 event.

Presentation:

Following a July 14, 2020 presidential order, any preference given to Hong Kong passport holders over PRC (mainland) China passport holders has now been eliminated. As a result Hong Kong citizens will be subject to much longer backlogs for U.S. immigrant visas (green cards) in all categories including EB-5 investor immigrant visas. Mel Warshaw will discuss the alternative planning of obtaining a Grenada passport and then qualifying for the E-2 visa, as well as the transition into EB-5 green card status. In addition, Mel will discuss the problems faced by all long-term green card holders if they then decide to leave the U.S..

In addition, Shudan Zhou and Ziva Robertson will review certain recent statutory and case law developments in multiple jurisdictions (including Delaware, Hong Kong, the Cayman Islands, etc.) and provide a jurisdictional comparative analysis to help international (especially Chinese) families to make sense of the big divide between the onshore and offshore world.

About STEP: The primary purpose of STEP Boston is to improve public understanding of the issues families face in relation to inheritance and succession planning and promote education and high professional standards among members.
