In this two-part article, the authors explain the most common misconceptions about Ohio Tax Increment Financing (“TIF”) a legislatively created funding tool for qualified public infrastructure and site improvements. The writers clarify that TIF can be used for more projects than commonly believed, noting for example that it can support qualified residential improvements, does not require certain property owner consents, can be used for appropriate private housing renovations, does not prevent the utilization of other tax incentives, can extend to school districts and is not restricted to blighted areas of cities only.
