Biography

Overview

Martin Edel is Co-Chair of Goulston & Storrs Sports Law Practice.  The Sports Law Practice has been recognized as one of the best in the United States.  In Marty’s litigation and advisory practice, Marty advises and represents leagues, teams, media companies and individuals in licensing matters and disputes, intellectual property matters, employment, gender equity, antitrust and other complex contractual disputes.

Marty is a recognized leader in the sports field.  At its annual 2018 and 2019 Sports Luncheon, Bloomberg has honored Marty as one of 30 high profile executives in the sports industry.  Marty also has been recognized as a SuperLawyer® in the field of Sports and Entertainment 2010-2011 and 2013-2021.

In addition, companies and senior executives call Marty for advice and representation.  Marty has advised companies and senior executive call Marty for advice and representation on employment and complex commercial disputes.  Marty has advised and litigated employment disputes (including claims of discrimination, stock option vesting, termination of employment and restrictive covenants), trademark disputes, contract interpretation and antitrust.  Marty has tried and arbitrated dozens of cases in state and federal courts throughout the country.

Marty is an Adjunct Instructor at Law at Columbia Law School, where he teaches Sports Law. In addition, for over 20 years, Marty has been an Adjunct Professor at Brooklyn Law School, where he teaches classes in Sports Law and in Antitrust. A sought-after speaker, Marty has spoken at sports law conferences and appeared on broadcasts of “Here and Now,” “Bloomberg on Sports” and numerous webinars on NIL, gender and racial equity, antitrust and labor. Additionally, Marty has been quoted on top-of-mind sports issues in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Law, Sportico, the Athletic and other publications. Marty graduated from Harvard Law School and Columbia College.
