Legal Professionals
At Goulston & Storrs, we combine serious business with genuine camaraderie, creating an environment where every team member is empowered to contribute meaningfully from day one. Our culture is built on mutual respect and open dialogue, fostering fresh ideas that lead to practical, client-focused solutions. We prioritize client outcomes above individual recognition and reward hard work with a supportive, inclusive, and compassionate workplace.
Collaboration here isn’t just a buzzword — it’s the foundation for continuous learning alongside talented colleagues and innovative clients. Above all, our commitment to public service is demonstrated through meaningful action, reflecting the values that guide everything we do.
Directors
Our directors are recognized as true “deal makers” — dedicated to keeping clients’ business goals front and center and delivering results. Consistently ranked by Chambers USA, BTI’s A-Team for Client Service, Best Lawyers in America, and other top rankings, they demonstrate time and again their ability to get deals done.
Unified Leadership & Teamwork
At Goulston & Storrs, partnership means embracing core values of consensus, teamwork, and communication. This culture fosters collegiality and consensus-driven decision-making across offices and practices.
- Attorneys actively shape firm strategy through monthly Directors’ Meetings and small group roundtable luncheons hosted by our Co-Managing Directors.
- Our unique leverage model and exceptional attorney retention create an environment where director relationships thrive.
- The firm is led by two Co-Managing Directors and an eight-person Executive Committee representing diverse offices and practices, all serving three-year terms.
- Our core practice groups have co-chairs to guide group strategy.
A True Partnership
- We offer a single-tier partnership — a model embraced by only 15% of top 200 firms — with no capital contribution, emphasizing genuine collaboration and shared success.
- Our subjective compensation system is reviewed annually by a rotating committee of directors across practices and seniority levels who are encouraged to provide candid feedback.
- Lateral partners join as directors on a two-year contract before entering the compensation system, supporting seamless integration and collaboration.
Comprehensive Support, Integration & Growth
Our collaborative culture uniquely empowers lateral partners to grow their practices without losing ownership of client relationships. By cross-servicing and increasing wallet share one relationship at a time, we maintain sustained growth and exceptional client loyalty.
Right from the start, our directors receive robust support designed to accelerate their success:
- A personalized Integration Team tailored to your practice, connecting you with attorneys and clients whose expertise complements yours.
- A dedicated Business Development Team committed to helping you expand your client relationships and grow your book of business.
- Innovative programming from our Legal Talent Team that sharpens your legal skills and professional development.

From the moment you join Goulston & Storrs, you are part of a firm that cares about your growth. Our goal is simple: hire exceptional people and give them the tools, experience, and support needed to build a rewarding, long-term career—one that leads to directorship.
Professional Development & Engagement
Comprehensive orientation and integration programs equip first-year and lateral associates with the knowledge, training, and relationships necessary to make an immediate impact. And a low director-to-associate ratio ensures rigorous, hands-on training from the very beginning. Here, associates work directly with senior attorneys on complex matters—gaining insight into the bigger picture and how your contributions advance client objectives. Formal learning opportunities include:
- Interactive seminars on substantive legal topics and professional skills, taught by G&S attorneys and leading external faculty
- Business development programs on networking, artificial intelligence and social media, board service, secondments, and client service
- Monthly practice group meetings on developments affecting our clients
- CLE programs (internal and external), plus access to online courses from PLI, Strafford, Practical Law, and others
Through intentional work assignments and training, associates gain the expertise to counsel clients at an increasingly sophisticated level—with an emphasis on exceptional work product, top-tier lawyering, teamwork, and civility.
Our associates are also active participants in firm life, serving on committees for hiring, pro bono, diversity, training, technology, and the summer program. Our co-managing directors regularly meet with all associates for open discussion on firm operations and updates from the directors’ meetings. The Associate Liaison Committee offers another forum to share ideas and ask questions.
Guidance, Workflow & Feedback
Every associate is paired with a director mentor and an associate “sibling” to ensure a smooth transition and provide tailored career guidance. Our open-door culture encourages organic mentoring relationships across the firm.
Work assignments are managed through a centralized allocation system, coordinated by two directors in each practice group. This ensures balanced workloads, a variety of projects, and opportunities to see matters through.
Associates receive ongoing feedback from mentors and supervising attorneys, plus formal reviews—every six months for newer associates and annually for more experienced ones—summarizing input from directors and providing clear action steps for growth.
Flexible Work Arrangements
We recognize the need to balance professional obligations with personal priorities. Our flexible work policy offers remote work options, alternative or reduced hours schedules, and structured ramp-down/ramp-up processes for leaves. Associates on flexible schedules receive proportionally higher pay than their schedule (e.g., 80% schedule earns 90% pay) and are paired with Flexible Work Mentors to ensure the arrangement works for everyone.
Path to Partnership
Among the nation’s top 200 firms, only 15% have a single-tier partnership. Goulston & Storrs is proud to be one of them, reflecting our commitment to true partnership. We have no fixed number of director positions, and associates are generally considered for directorship after 10 years of practice.
