Seaport Sessions: The Uncornered Project

October 20, 2020 at 5:15pm6:15pm
Virtual

Suma Nair, Director, Goulston & Storrs will moderate a virtual panel discussion regarding the Uncornered photo documentary exhibit in Boston's Seaport. This outdoor public photo exhibit is a bold example of the neighborhood’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.

The virtual discussion will provide an in-depth look at the ideas and stories behind the powerful Boston Uncornered Photo Project, currently on exhibit on Seaport Common at 85 Northern Avenue through October 30. The series of 30 stunning, 5’x8’ black and white portraits of former gang members and public figures highlights our shared humanity as we work together to end systemic racism, gang violence and urban poverty. Viewers will learn why this exhibit is so relevant right now, what it means to be “Uncornered”, why the participants are sharing such personal stories with a public audience and how the photographer was able to evoke such intense emotion from them for his photographs. There will be an opportunity for the panel to answer viewer questions.

The Boston Uncornered photo project exhibit was created pro bono by PJA Advertising + Marketing in partnership with Boston Uncornered, Boston Seaport by WS Development and renowned photographer John Huet, who volunteered his time and talent. The exhibit pairs the larger than life black and white portraits with short stories of the participants who share the universal experience of feeling cornered by a negative narrative such as racism, a traumatic event, or people not believing in them – and how they found the strength, resilience and support to become “Uncornered.”

Panelists for the virtual discussion include:

    • Devin McCourty – New England Patriots Captain, whose portrait and story are showcased within the exhibit
    • Michelle Caldeira – Founder/Senior Vice President of Boston Uncornered
    • Phil Johnson – PJA Advertising + Marketing CEO
    • John Huet – Photographer
