Through sustained civic engagement, Matthew takes an active role in improving the city where he works and lives.

In his teaching, writing, and speaking about design, development, and land use policy, Matthew encourages broad debate on how to thoughtfully reshape cities to meet their 21^st century challenges. He also serves on the Board of the Leventhal Map and Education Center and chairs the Truro Historical Commission.
