Representation of a family company in connection with its disposition of 600 New Hampshire Avenue NW (“Watergate 600”), a 12-story, 309,000-square-foot office building within the Watergate Complex on the Potomac River in Washington, DC, to Washington Real Estate Investment Trust, a public REIT, in a tax protected contribution transaction in exchange for “downREIT units.”  The building was 97 percent leased at closing and in the midst of second-generation renovations.  Atlantic Media, which publishes The Atlantic magazine, leases roughly 140,000 square feet at the property.  Watergate 600 is one of the most prestigious buildings in the internationally recognized Watergate Complex.
